The music streaming service spin-off of Beats Electronics – purveyors of slick and expensive audio headgear, Beats by Dre – will arrive for US listeners first in January 2014 and the Beats Music site is now welcoming username reservations.

For a long time, Beats Music was known by its codename ‘Project Daisy’, but CEO of the company (which was established as a separate entity to Beats Electronics early this year following US$60m investment) Ian Rogers revealed in a blog post yesterday that the service now known as Beats Music is real and it’s coming soon.

A Beats Music website has already been established and invites potential users to come and ‘claim your name’, registering preferred usernames so they’re not taken when the service kicks into gear next year. For Irish users, though, the website just tells you that Beats Music is coming soon.

Rogers said the service has progressed from a private alpha to a private beta, but reveals nothing about what it will offer to make it stand out from the music streaming competition.
