Almost 200m people have watched Facebook ‘Look Back’ videos – Sheryl Sandberg

12 Feb 2014

Nearly 200m people have watched Facebook ‘Look Back’ videos since the product was launched on 4 February, the social network’s 10th anniversary.

To mark the occasion, Facebook enabled its members to generate and share a one-minute video set to music that highlights photos and popular status updates since their first day on the site.

YouTube members Derick Watts & The Sunday Blues even went a step further and generated a parody ‘Look Back’ video for Walter White, the chemistry-teacher-turned-druglord on TV series Breaking Bad.

At a the Goldman Sachs Technology and Internet Conference in San Francisco, California, yesterday, Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, revealed the nearly 200m figure, CNET reported.

“It was amazing,” Sandberg said of the response to the ‘Look Back’ videos. “Almost 200m people watched (their ‘Look Back’ video), and 50pc of people who watched their own video, shared it. It … showed the power of the Facebook brand.”

Facebook members who had enough content for a ‘Look Back’ video were able to create the clips. Those who did not received a ‘thank you’ card instead.
