Facebook redesigns News Feed – bigger pictures and a new font

7 Mar 2014

Expect the howling to begin as Facebook sets about revamping its News Feed. However, the changes are quite subtle, with pictures appearing larger and text appearing in a new font on PCs and Macs.

“The updated design has the best of both worlds: it keeps the layout and navigation people liked, but offers bigger images and photos, as well as a new font,” Facebook announced. “The current design on mobile remains the same.”

Of course any change that Facebook introduces is met with dismay and scepticism before people realise that life beats on. But in this case there are no changes to functionality, just better presentation in line with Facebook’s mobile apps.

As well as images appearing larger, the new font for the text will be Helvetica for Macs and Arial for PCs.

“These changes are visual updates and do not affect how we surface content to people, nor do they change how stories are ranked in News Feed,” Facebook said.

“Though in the new design all images are larger, both organic stories and ads will be the same size – similar to the way images appear on mobile.”

Facebook says the new layout and design will filter out to all users in the coming weeks.
