Popular clip-sharing app Vine has introduced a loop count on its vines to give users a sense of how popular a vine is, something which the company could also benefit from knowing in terms of marketing.
Announcing the news in a blog post, the team behind the app say it will be available from today on both iOS and Android.
“With this update, there’s now a new way for you to quickly get a sense of how popular and interesting a vine may be - based on how many times people watch a vine loop.
“The number, which you can see in our mobile apps and on vine.co, updates in real-time, so as you watch a video, you’ll know you’re watching with others at the same time.”
The team also hopes the app will soon become a way for users to create popularity contests and rank themselves highest in terms of vine loops.
While being largely a mobile service, Vine is still popular on desktop computers, which will also be included in the tracking of the six-second clips.
While the loop count has been introduced today, all vines since 3 April have been counted. Vines created just before this date will also have the ‘+’ suffix to show it is likely they’d have more views prior to counting being available.
