Leaving Certificate students in Ireland expecting their exam results today can tally up all their points via NUI Galway’s app iPoints, now available to download for free on iTunes for iOS devices.

Since launching the award-winning app last year, NUI Galway said it has been downloaded more than 8,000 times, with an average of 200 downloads every month.

NUI Galway, in partnership with former information technology student Paul Herron, developed the app, which has attracted awards at the Appy Awards and at the Digital Media Awards, in the ‘Best Use of Mobile’ category.

The app has been designed to allow Leaving Certificate students to quickly and easily calculate their points when they receive their exam results.

Students using the app can simply enter their results for each subject, indicating whether it is higher or ordinary level. The app calculates the number of points attained in each subject, and indicates the total.

The app calculates 25 additional points to be added for Higher Maths if relevant, and allows for Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) scores to be included.

Students can also let their friends know how they scored by sharing their results via the app on text message, or through social media channels, such as Facebook and Twitter.
