Facebook tag to clarify what is satire

18 Aug 2014

Facebook is testing a new tag to let users know when a piece of content on the social network is satire in response to user feedback.

Satirical content, such as that coming from websites such as The Onion, that appears on Facebook users’ Timelines will be tagged ‘(Satire)’, just to make it clear the stories aren’t real.

The move comes after satirical stories provoked anger and confusion from some Facebook users.

“We received feedback that people wanted a clearer way to distinguish satirical articles from others in these units,” BBC reported a Facebook spokesman as having said.

It’s not known how many satirical sites will carry the ‘Satire’ tag.
