Twitter revamps sign-up flow in bid to boost numbers

1 Sep 2014

In its quest to increase its number of users, microblogging site Twitter has introduced a new streamlined sign-up flow that includes recommendations and subject preferences.

This is the first update to the sign-up process in three years and endeavours to make Twitter easier to understand and start using from the get-go.

One of the main problems for users starting out on Twitter has been who to follow and how to start interacting in a meaningful way with other users.

Rather than suggesting a few users to follow, the new sign-up flow allows people to pick subjects that interest them, such as music, sports, entertainment, news, technology, fashion, humour and popular accounts.

Users can also see sample tweets from suggested accounts before deciding who to follow.

Twitter has been battling the perception that user growth is stalling.

However, in June, the company reported it had 271m monthly active users, up 6.3pc.
