This week in viral videos, we’ve been watching shrimp get cooked in three seconds, dangerous moustache-removal methods, a pug in a tub, a singing bulldog and Christopher Walken in the air.

About 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute, Facebook videos see over 1bn views per day, and more than 700 YouTube videos shared on Twitter each minute, ensuring there is always video trending on the web.

3-second cooking: detonation velocity fried shrimp

Let’s kick off this week’s countdown with a quickfire cooking lesson – emphasis on the words ‘quick’ and ‘fire’. This meal-making method brought to you by Japanese mobile telco NTT DoCoMo is intended to promote the network’s fast LTE data speeds by demonstrating how shrimp can be cooked in the blink of an eye. Remember: it’s flour, egg, breadcrumbs, scorch, then the airbag.

Movember is over, Mo Bros, and it’s time for a shave. As YouTuber Mehdi Sadaghdar puts it, “I’m done growing my Movember,” which in his case left him looking like a cross between Saddam Hussein and Freddie Mercury. However, the methods chosen by Mehdi to remove his mo’ – wax, a homemade taser, a kitchen knife and burning lighter fluid – are not advisable for most humans. In short: don’t try this at home.

DJ Earworm mash-up: ‘United State of Pop 2014’ (Do What You Wanna Do)

The year is almost out and the round-ups and look-backs have already begun. First to the post in the viral videos countdown is this mash-up of 2014’s pop hits from DJ Earworm. The hook comes from Maroon 5’s ‘Animals’, bringing us the track title’s ‘Do What You Wanna Do’, but all the big hitters are accounted for, from Meghan Trainor to Taylor Swift with a detour through Frozen’s ‘Let It Go’. There’s even a shout-out to Irish superstar Hozier. Amen.

Also trending on YouTube this week is Stephanie Roche’s viral wondergoal, which has been shortlisted as one of just three finalists for FIFA’s Puskás Award, along with World Cup goals from Robin Van Persie and James Rodriguez. With enough votes, Roche could become the first woman ever to receive the honour.
