Gigglebit: Dances with pixels

Gigglebit is Siliconrepublic’s daily dose of the funny and fantastic in science and tech, to help start your day on a lighter note.

Today, we bring you Pixel, a performance piece combining dance and digital projection mapping techniques.

Devised by French performance artists Adrien Mondot and Claire Bardainne, with choreography help from Mourad Merzouki, Pixel is a 70-minute performance merging live dancers with floor-to-ceiling digital images that appear to be manipulated by the dancers’ movements.

Eleven dancers took part in the full performance, which premiered last November at the Maison des Arts de Créteil in the Parisian suburbs. Below is a three-minute excerpt from that performance, showcasing the highlights of this innovative dance collaboration billed as “a work on illusion combining energy and poetry, fiction and technical achievement, hip hop and circus.”
