Dropbox unveils app for Windows phones and tablets

22 Jan 2015

In revealing the next phase of its partnership with Microsoft, storage and productivity player Dropbox has finally unveiled the long-awaited Dropbox app for Windows phones and tablets.

The new app automatically backs up users’ photos to Dropbox, marks files as favourites so users can access them even without an internet connection, and access both work and personal accounts all at once.

But it actually goes further than that. Dropbox has tailored the app for the Windows platform in such a way that users can pin any Dropbox folder to their Start screen.

The app is available for download on Windows phones (8.0 or higher) and Windows devices running on Windows RT or Windows 8.1.

The unveiling of the new app follows yesterday’s news that Dropbox acquired Israeli mobile productivity app provider CloudOn for an undisclosed sum.

The purchase adds to Dropbox’s acquisition strategy in recent years, with the company snapping up the likes of Audiogalaxy, PiCloud, Loom, and Snapjoy in the recent past.
