Imgur’s new tool creates high quality GIFs from YouTube videos

30 Jan 2015

Image-hosting service Imgur has unveiled a new online GIF creator that easily converts YouTube clips into the much-loved animation format.

Video to GIF, which has been unveiled via the website’s blog, is free to use and can create clips up to 15 seconds in length.

Rather than traditional GIFs, each animation created using the tool is, in fact, a GIFV, meaning a higher quality video. Each created file is hosted by Imgur itself, with a link and embedding code provided.

“Traditionally, GIF creation has been a challenge reserved only for those with mad image editing skills,” wrote the team. “Imgur wants to change that by making the beauty of custom GIFs accessible to the entire Internet. Starting today, Imgur is the best place to discover GIFs and the best place to create them.”

Video to GIF is also compatible with hundreds of other video hosting sites and can convert clips up to 1GB in size. However, the tool is only available for desktop.

Here’s one I made earlier..
