Creeping on celebrities just got a whole lot easier with the news that Twitter is allowing users to accept all DMs, regardless of whether they follow the sender or not.
Prior to today’s change, two Twitter accounts had to follow each other before they could trade private direct messages, but those barriers have now been removed, providing users select the setting.
A new Direct Message button has also been added to profiles on Android and iPhone, and will appear on the pages of people you can send messages to.
“We hope these changes help you connect more easily – and directly – on Twitter with the people, causes and businesses you care about most,” wrote Twitter senior software engineer Nhu Vuong in a blog post.
Last month, the social network introduced a new feature to makes it easier for users to report abusive and threatening tweets to the police. When reporting abuse to Twitter, users are now given the option of receiving a summary of that report via email.
