Pre-pay iPhone 3G hits O2 and Carphone Warehouse stores

O2 said today that it is now selling pre-pay versions of the iPhone 3G in its own stores, as well as through Carphone Warehouse outlets.

As reported on siliconrepublic.com in recent weeks, O2 said that supply problems associated with the iPhone 3G have by now eased up, and that the company will be working in the coming week to clear up any backlog.

The pre-pay version of the iPhone will be priced at €480 for the 8GB model, and €569 for the 16GB model.

Internet access will cost 99 cents per day up to a daily limit of 50MB, while Wi-Fi access through Bitbuzz hotspots nationwide will be free for a period of 12 months.

Call credit packages up to €70 to support the device are now available, the company said.

The iconic 3G iPhone devices went on sale in July but were plagued by insufficient supply.

A spokesman for O2 told siliconrepublic.com: “Any backlog that existed, we are now working to clear. Supply has improved. People were waiting on the post-pay side, and in the week ahead we will work to clear the remaining backlog.”
