Vodafone, along with other international mobile operators Verizon and China Mobile, have created a new 360 marketplace for widgets and applications for mobile devices.
Together the three companies comprise a global market of more than one billion mobile users.
The Vodafone 360 Experience promises to pull together all the disparate social-networking and web applications that savvy consumers enjoy today and allow them to embrace a compelling mobile experience.
The Vodafone 360 Experience will revolutionise the way mobile consumers interact with their address book, putting the individual at the centre of a universe where friends and colleagues orbit.
Available on forthcoming Vodafone 360 devices, as well as Nokia Series 60, and eventually all phones with Java clients, the 360 Experience will also change the way users manage their digital assets, from photos to video.
“What Vodafone have done with Vodafone 360 is they’ve actually pulled all of these worlds – Facebook, Twitter, Gmail, Flickr, etc – together and put them in one place with the idea of putting the individual back in the centre of those activities,” says Vodafone Ireland chief executive Charles Butterworth. “At the moment, many of these are still reasonably disparate platforms.
“Fundamentally, what we’re saying is we will bring you a service that you can actively keep in touch with all of your different networks in a dynamic fashion and you can do it all through your mobile phone.
“For Vodafone, it is what we believe is the next generation of services that people are going to want to use.”
