O2.ie launches accessibility tool

Web surfers who live with mild visual impairments, learning disabilities such as dyslexia, and literacy difficulties can now listen to content on O2.ie.

Mobile services provider Telefónica O2 Ireland announced BrowseAloud today, for online visitors with special needs.

BrowseAloud, which is free to download, enables visitors to listen to the website's content, as it's read out loud. Visitors can also customise the tool in terms of colours, text size and the speed of the voice.

That's not all: BrowseAloud includes a talking dictionary, an option to convert text to MP3 format, and the ability to read HTML, PDF documents, hyperlinks and tags behind images.

In using BrowseAloud, visitors to O2.ie will be able to hear information on everything from the company's latest mobile phones and price plans to new services that have been launched, said Ita Lehane, head of operational excellence, Telefónica O2 Ireland.
