HTC’s Smart targets ‘affordable smart-phone’ niche

Not content with being the driving force behind the talk of CES, Google’s Nexus One, HTC also released yet another smart phone, the HTC Smart, an affordable smart phone for the masses.

“Just adding a touch interface doesn’t mean a phone is a smart phone; the integration of HTC Sense brings an unparallelled smart-phone experience for people looking to do more on their phone,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC.

The Smart has a 2.8-inch TFT-LCD touch-sensitive screen with QVGA resolution and 3.0-megapixel camera with fixed focus and flash.

It is 4.09 x 2.17 x 0.50 inches and takes micro SD memory while running on the Brew mobile platform from Qualcomm.

“HTC Smart breaks new ground in delivering the powerful, in-demand smart-phone features that consumers want on a more accessible device for global markets,” said Paul Jacobs, chief executive officer, Qualcomm Incorporated.

The Smart uses HTC’s Sense user interface, which debuted on the Android-based HTC Hero in June 2009. Sense is a customisable layout that allows users to place widgets, apps and web feeds on their mobile home screen for a custom experience.
