To mark the EU’s Safer Internet Day, Microsoft has joined forces with the UK’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection (CEOP) organisation to introduce a ‘panic button’ for those looking to report issues including cyber bullying or harmful content on websites.

This panic button is a shortcut provided by Internet Explorer 8’s Web Slices and will sit on the browser, providing direct access to the CEOP’s website, where internet users can get advice and guidance on internet safety.

This is similar to the safety measures introduced by social-networking site Bebo last year, whereby members can now report cyber bullying or general abuse by clicking through to CEOP also.

Note: the CEOP site is for UK residents and those in Ireland wishing to report cyber bullying directly from within Bebo or from the Web Slice on IE8 are not directed to Irish links but will be provided with internet safety advice in general.
