Dairygold invests €250k in mobile handheld deal

23 Feb 2010

Mobile technology company VisionID has just completed a €250,000 deal to provide Dairygold Agri stores with Motorola handheld computers and wireless infrastructure which will track and trace all stock in their 39 agri business outlets throughout Munster.

The Tipperary-based high-tech company hopes this deal, and other imminent signings, will help it boost its workforce by up to 20pc by the end of this year.

VisionID already has a core staff of 16 but is confident of employing at least four more highly skilled professionals by December, despite these more challenging economic times.

Under the terms of the Dairygold agreement, VisionID, which is based in Clonmel, will provide the Motorola MC3090 handheld devices and Motorola wireless access points devices for stocktaking and other product-related functions.

Managed services supporting the hardware in the field are provided in conjunction with CORE Integrated Business Solutions based in Mitchelstown, Co Cork, who have provided their entire “sector specific” CORE Agri software solution in Dairygold’s Agri Division –  including branch business systems, milling, contracts, transport scheduler, etc. This integrates with the group financials provided by Oracle.

What the VisionID and Dairygold deal includes

VisionID sales director Cathal Murtagh said the deal would include the preloading of software and staging of the devices – making the entire process and delivery to the stores as seamless as possible.

‘‘It is great to see Dairygold supporting local, indigenous Irish-owned companies like VisionID and CORE Integrated Business Solutions,” Murtagh said.

‘‘This deal will have an extremely positive impact on both VisionID and CORE Integrated Business Solutions. Importantly, it will be a beacon for similar Irish companies seeking a one-stop shop for in-country service and support.

“We look forward to working with Dairygold as they continue to support Irish business and local communities,” Murtagh added.

Working with firms in Clonmel and Mitchelstown is very much in line with Dairygold’s ethos, it said.

“Having reviewed a lot of different solutions from different vendors, we are delighted to have chosen VisionID and CORE Integrated Business Solutions to support our agri operations moving forward,” said Catherine McGovern, Dairygold IT manager.

VisionID’s background

Established in 2000, VisionID specialises in the provision of mobile computing, wireless LAN, RFID and barcode printing and scanning solutions, with a particular expertise in integration to ERP systems and managed services and support.

Dairygold Co-Operative Society Limited is Ireland’s largest farmer-owned business. With 39 stores in Cork, Tipperary, Limerick and Clare, the objective of Dairygold’s Agri-Trading operations is to deliver real value to farmers, supplying high quality, competitively priced farm inputs and supplies.

After a strategic review of their business information systems, it was recommended that the future BIS strategy should include replacement of all legacy systems.
