Novell unveils its flavour of Nokia and Intel’s MeeGo

2 Jun 2010

Software and services multinational Novell has added its name to the list of manufacturers supporting Nokia and Intel’s jointly developed MeeGo platform for next-generation mobile computing devices.

Novell said it will be releasing SUSE MeeGo as a fully supported operating system for netbooks and expects it to be pre-installed on a number of devices from OEMs within the next year.

SUS MeeGo is built on the codestream from the Linux-based MeeGo Project and follows the recent project release of MeeGo v1.0 – a stable core foundation for developers to work on application development and UX for netbooks.

“Our commitment to ship SUSE MeeGo further extends our position as the leading OS vendor in the desktop Linux market,” said Guy Lunardi, director of client preloads at Novell.

“Novell is passionate about providing users with a better computing experience and MeeGo will deliver on that promise.  Our experience as the leading commercial provider of desktop Linux environments – from thin clients, to workstations, through netbooks, notebooks and desktop devices – puts us in a great position to deliver SUSE MeeGo to a broad base of original equipment and device manufacturers.”

Novell will be showcasing SUSE MeeGo 1.0 at the Computex conference in Taipei from today.
