| eBay director Tom Tierney, Part 1: Megatrends in 21st-century philanthropy | Thomas J Tierney, a director of eBay and chairman of The Bridgespan Group Thomas J Tierney has served as a director of eBay since March 2003. Tierney is the founder of The Bridgespan Group, a non-profit consulting firm serving the non-profit sector, and has been its chairman of the board since late 1999. Prior to founding Bridgespan, he served as chief executive officer of Bain & Company, a consulting firm, from June 1992 to January 2000. Tierney holds a BA degree in economics from the University of California at Davis and an MBA degree with distinction from Harvard Business School. He is the co-author of Aligning the Stars, a book about organisation and strategy and, more recently, co-author of Give Smart. Interview with Tierney here.

![]() | Danielle Ryan, actor and RADA graduate, representative of the Cathal Ryan Trust Danielle Ryan is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London and has appeared in plays, films and TV productions. She is the granddaughter of Dr Tony Ryan, founder of Ryanair, and daughter of the late Capt Cathal Ryan, a pilot and philanthropist. Danielle has taken up the mantle of her late father with her charity work, and following a recent trip to her ancestral home, is now working with UNICEF Ireland to help Sri Lanka come to grips with the devastation it has experienced following the recent war. Aside from her own personal business ventures, Danielle is setting up a new National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Ireland at Trinity College. As representative of the Cathal Ryan Trust, Danielle will be supporting the academy on various levels. |
![]() | John R Healy, chairman, Philanthropy Ireland John Healy was chief executive officer and president of The Atlantic Philanthropies, a large international grant-making foundation, from 2001 to 2007. Upon his retirement in 2007, Healy was appointed adjunct professor in the Centre for Nonprofit Management at Trinity College Dublin. He serves on the boards of the Irish Landmark Trust, INKEx - the Irish Nonprofit Knowledge Exchange, the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland, the Mary Robinson Foundation, and the Trinity Foundation. He is a member of the Irish Government's Forum on Philanthropy, and sits on the advisory board of the One Foundation. He chairs the board of Philanthropy Ireland. He also consults in the fields of philanthropy and foundation management. |
![]() | Frank Flannery, chairman, Forum on Philanthropy Former chief executive of the Rehab Group Frank Flannery continues to be a member of its board. A former adviser to the late Taoiseach Garret Fitzgerald, he has acted as national director of elections for Fine Gael on four occasions and remains a member of the party's trustees and executive council. He is chairman of the Irish Government's Forum on Philanthropy. Flannery established both Ireland's Rehab Lotteries and UK Charity Lotteries, and was a founding member of Workability International, serving as president from 2001 to 2010. He is the founding chairman of Ireland's Not for Profit Business Association. |
