InterTradeIreland has launched this year’s all-island Seedcorn competition for start-ups and early stage ventures. In all, a prize fund worth €280,000 will be divided up amongst the winning start-ups. This year, the contest aims to mirror the real-life investment process that start-ups have to go through.

Our tech start-up of the week is the new online pet store Petfactory.ie. Live since August of last year, the store sells everything from pet food to dog kennels and aquariums, with 90pc of its products sourced in Ireland. The website has recently launched into the UK market.

The CEO of Evernote Phil Libin has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at the October Web Summit in Dublin. Taking its inspiration from SXSW, the organisers say this year’s event will be a week-long Festival of Ideas. The organisers envisage that this year’s Web Summit will contribute €20m to the local economy in Dublin, up from €12m last year.
