Point the Way
Point the Way, an advanced GPS navigation system for the blind and visually impaired, is currently being developed in collaboration with the National Council for the Blind of Ireland (NCBI).Testing and evaluation is currently underway.
How does a visually impaired person get from A to B using GPS?
That's a good question and it is our belief that there are many fundamental problems with existing GPS solutions for the visually impaired including:
- Cumbersome stand-alone devices
- Expensive
- Rely solely on verbal announcements to guide the user which are distracting, difficult to hear on busy streets and definitely not discreet
- Some devices have no option for the user to input their destination
- Use expensive proprietary maps
Why is Point the Way different?
We are taking great care to listen to what visually impaired people need from their GPS navigation systems and by capitalising on new developments in mobile, navigation and location technologies, Point the Way is developing an advanced GPS navigation system tailored to those needs.
