Online consumer start-up GetitKeepit.com has won the Maples and Calder Spark of Genius Competition at the 2010 Dublin Web Summit.

Set up by Alan Coleman and Jim Hannon in 2007, GetitKeepit.com is an easy-to-use, free online consumer portal where all household bills can be managed in one place, solving the problems people face when trying to keep control of their bills and payments.

Features of the site include a free Smart Postbox, allowing users to receive and manage all bills visually in one online location and automatic email alerts, calendar reminders and simple online payments.

GetitKeepit.com closed a seed round of investment and had its public ‘Beta’ launch in March 2010. It’s looking to expand immediately in the UK and has commercial contracts in place with both local and international companies including Vodafone.

Moving a traditional service online

“At GetitKeepit we are planning to do for household bills what Skype has done for telephony: moving online a traditional service for the benefit of the consumer,” said Alan Coleman, CEO of Getitkeepit.com.

“Our aim is to build a global company that through our innovative technology and business model which revolutionises the adoption of paperless billing. We want to realise the ambition often spoken about in regards to the ‘Smart Economy.”

The Spark of Genius competition

International law firm Maples and Calder, in conjunction with the Dublin Web Summit, established the Spark of Genius competition to recognise early-stage web entrepreneurs.

Two other Irish start-up companies – CurrencyFair and LogEntries.com – were shortlisted with GetitKeepit.com and given the opportunity to pitch their company to a panel of judges at the Web Summit.

All entrants for the competition were required to be under three years old and have received less than €1m in equity funding or have generated less than €1m of revenue in the last year. All companies were required to have a minimum Beta format of their product for demonstration at the summit.
