New online business directory for Limerick

11 Mar 2011

The Business Support Unit (BSU) at Limerick County Council is setting up an online business directory aimed at supporting local businesses, guided by research by University of Limerick Masters students.

The Limerick Business Directory is expected to be completed and made available online by June. It will feature contact details and information on commercial, industrial and professional companies that are active in the county.

The BSU and students from the Masters in international entrepreneurship management from the Kemmy Business School are undertaking a research survey of local businesses to identify the key issues that they face and identify the main areas where support, advice and assistance is required.

“Newly released figures suggest there has been a 3.9pc increase in the number of new companies formed in the first six weeks of 2011, compared to the same period last year,” said director of services Josephine Cotter Coughlan, speaking on behalf of the BSU.

“The BSU is working with the Kemmy Business School to provide a business consulting report on how the BSU can support entrepreneurs and business people in Co Limerick.

“It will be asking local businesses on the most effective way of marketing this support to local business owners. We will also be gaining an insight into the perception of Limerick County Council amongst business people and entrepreneurs in addressing the issues that face them in business, as well as investigating the level of interest people would have in attending workshops and mentoring clinics on local authority issues.”
