Scrazzl, a new search and marketing platform for science researchers and manufacturers, has been chosen to be one of 12 start-ups from Europe that will get to network with and pitch to potential investors at the Tech All Stars event at the LeWeb tech conference in London in two weeks’ time
The start-up itself emerged from the NDRC digital accelerator Launchpad last year and is now based at Dogpatch Labs in Dublin.
Currently in beta mode, Scrazzl is developing online tools with the aim of helping scientists and suppliers of scientific products to communicate and connect more efficiently, as well as pooling resources and come up with solutions to problems.
PhDs David Kavanagh and Desmond O’Shea began working on Scrazzl in 2010 in response to problems both researchers had experienced first hand.
The two founders created the company after their PhDs and moved into NDRC’s Launchpad accelerator in January 2011, where they built out their team and secured investment from UK angel investors and Enterprise Ireland.
Scrazzl CEO David Kavanagh said today it was a huge honour to have been selected as one the 12 start-ups at LeWeb‘s Tech All Star event.
The European Commission’s Tech All Stars said it received 257 applications in all from start-ups across Europe.
LeWeb itself will be taking place 19-20 June in London and will feature speakers such as Kevin Systrom, co-founder and CEO of Instagram, US blogger and technical evangelist Robert Scoble, as well as an array of investors, bloggers and techies.
The Tech All-Stars event will consist of talks and pitches in front of a jury comprising investors. The 12 start-ups will be whittled down to three start-ups.
On 21 June, the three selected start-ups will participate in Founders Forum in London. The grand-prize winner will then head to Brussels to participate in the Digital Agenda Assembly event at the European Commission on 22 June. The winning team will also receive a prize from European Commission vice-president Neelie Kroes.
As for Launchpad at the NDRC in Dublin, people have until 6 July to apply for a place on the next digital accelerator. And there will be an information evening on 13 June.
