A new household budgeting app for the iPhone that has been created by the Tipperary-based Chocolate Lab Apps, appears to be catching on with people eager to streamline their expenses, as the app features in the top 10 of the paid finance segment of the Apple App Store in the US today, having just debuted on iTunes in early August.

According to Chocolate Lab Apps' founder Elaine Heney, the new app, which has just been made available for the iPad aswell, can track everything from coffee purchases to lunch and petrol expenses.

The app, which retails at US$0.99, supports 48 international currencies including the dollar, euro, pounds, yen, rubles and the won.

Apparently, users to set their weekly budget, analyse what they spend most of their money on each week and see in real-time how much they have left to spend for the week.

"We worked really hard to make this app look beautiful and be incredibly useful. Being up at the top of the US charts after a few days of launch is an amazing achievement for the whole team," she said.

The mobile app development company Chocolate Lab Apps is a spin-off from Grey Horse Apps. That particular start-up won a second-place prize in the Best Ever Apps competition in San Francisco, California, last January for its equine app 'Save a Horse'. Grey Horse Apps created the app in alliance with the Irish Horse Welfare Trust.

As for the new budgeting app, it is only available for iPhone users at the minute. However, Heney said the app will soon be available for the iPad.
