5 cities to host Startup Gathering 2015 in week-long event

Under the theme of ‘Start, Scale, Succeed in Ireland’, Startup Gathering 2015 will see more than 50 events hosted in five Irish cities for national and international start-ups.

Taking place in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway and Waterford, this year’s Startup Gathering will be taking place between 5 and 10 October to promote entrepreneurship and showcase Ireland’s start-up sector to more than 15,000 people.

The end goal for the organisers of the event is to encourage networking opportunities between attending start-ups and hopefully see the creation of at least 2,500 new jobs in the following 12 months.

The Startup Ireland partnership also has plans in place to make Ireland a global start-up hub by 2020, with hackathon incubators and mentoring programmes to take place during the event in October.

Speaking at the launch in Cork, project director for Cork Innovates, Siobhán Finn, said: “The vision for the [Startup] Gathering is to highlight the resources available to support the growth of a diverse pipeline of indigenous and international high-growth start-ups, which in turn will help attract international venture capitalists and other supporting bodies to locate in participating cities with a positive spill-over effect into indigenous and locally-traded business.”

CEO of the Startup Ireland partnership Eoin Costello added: “The future growth of Ireland’s economy in terms of innovation and jobs is closely linked to the performance of Ireland’s start-up sector.”
