An attack by hackers on credit-card processing giant Global Payments saw hackers make away with numbers and information relating to up to 1.5m credit-card accounts.
The company said Track 2 card data may have been stolen but the criminals did not obtain cardholder names, social security numbers and addresses.
It said that based on forensic analysis to date, network monitoring and additional security measures, it believes the incident is contained.
Global Payments said it is working with law-enforcement agencies and has engaged multiple IT security and forensic issues to tackle the issue.
“We are making rapid progress towards bringing this issue to a close,” Global Payments’ CEO and chairman Paul Garcia said.
“Our nearly 4,000 employees around the world are focused on providing exceptional service. We are open for business and continue to process transactions for all of the card brands,” Garcia said.
