Youth Defence’s website has been hacked

9 Jul 2013

The website belonging to anti-abortion group Youth Defence has been hacked, it has emerged. The site’s front page has been replaced by an article making allegations against the group.

The hack has occurred at the height of a controversial debate over the introduction of legal reforms concerning abortion by the Irish Government.

The front page of the Youth Defence’s website has been replaced by an article headlined “This is not the hate-filled truth-distorting website you’re looking for” alleging links between right-wing groups and Youth Defence.

The article also makes allegations concerning Youth Defence’s finances.

This is not the first time that hacking has been used to make a point in Irish politics. In 2011, two teenagers were arrested for defacing the Fine Gael website.
