Irish PC retailer
shuts four stores

19 Jun 2003

Irish technology retailer PC Superstore has closed four of its outlets around the country – one third of the amount it had originally established.

Stores in Galway, Tralee, Limerick and on the Longmile Road in Dublin are no longer in operation. Eight other stores in Cork, Coolock, Waterford, Drogheda, Kilkenny, Dundalk, Bray, Athlone, remain trading. Customers who recently bought products from any of the four outlets are being referred to the closest PC Superstore outlet for technical support queries.

A company representative refused to be drawn on the matter, except to say that PC Superstore had restructured and consolidated its operations. “We have a hit rate of 66pc, for us that has been satisfactory.”

It is not known how many jobs have been lost as a result of the closure although it is believed that the four stores no longer operating were among the smallest in the retailer’s chain. Little is known about the background of PC Superstore; it sprang into existence around two years ago and set up a number of stores in a very short space of time. At one time it claimed to be the largest nationwide PC retailer.
