Baltimore bags Bangkok contract

Irish e-security software firm Baltimore Technologies has signed a deal with one of the largest telecom operators in Thailand to create a new commercial electronic certificate authority.

Using Baltimore’s UniCert public key infrastructure (PKI) technology, Telephone Organisation of Thailand (TOT) Corporation will issue digital certificates to authenticate the online identity of users and to protect the integrity and privacy of data exchanged over the internet.

To secure the deal, Baltimore partners with Thai systems integrator OGA SynCom to deliver the solution.

The service will initially be offered to partners and employees of TOT to establish trusted extranet communications and will then be extended to both commercial and government customers.

“Public key infrastructure is a core component in enabling trusted authentication for e-commerce and TOT are pioneering developments to make digital certificate technology available in Thailand,” said Gavan Egan, senior vice president Asia Pacific of Baltimore Technologies. “OGA SynCom’s local support and integration services were key to the successful deployment of this project.”

Wichien Naksrinual, senior executive vice president of customer services of TOT Corporation Public Company added: “TOT’s business objective has always been to provide excellent information technology services and solutions to local and international organisations in Thailand. Establishing a new commercial certification authentication enables us to expand our service in the growing e-commerce sector in Thailand.”
