EBay to announce Dublin expansion

9 Sep 2003

Internet giant eBay is expected to announce shortly that it is to expand its operations in Blanchardstown, Dublin, with the creation of a rumoured 1,000 jobs.

A spokesman for the IDA confirmed that the agency was in discussions with the online auction house and said that the process was nearing completion.

According to newspaper reports over the weekend, Ebay is to acquire a massive building in Blanchardstown business park in north-west Dublin. It is understood that part of the new premises will be used to accommodate eBay’s online payment unit, PayPal.

A spokesperson for eBay was unavailable for comment.

The eBay expansion follows similar announcements by Google and Overture and comes as another Blanchardstown-based tech firm, 3Com, prepares to scale down its operations with the loss of 650 jobs.
