It has emerged that a cheeky plot is under way to make the Wolfe Tones’ A Nation Once Again the favourite song of all time on the BBC World Service website.
An email is doing the rounds calling for Irish cyber citizens to join en masse to rig the voting for the top ten songs of all time on the BBC world service website, voting for which ends tomorrow (13 December).
So far the Wolfe Tones’ classic, A Nation Once Again, is among the top contenders, fighting for position with other contenders such as Imagine by John Lennon, Hero by Mariah Carey, Believe by Cher and We Don’t Talk Anymore by Cliff Richard.
The World Service is celebrating its 70th anniversary and is marking the occasion by an online quest to find the word’s favourite song. Some 5,300 different songs have been nominated from voters in some 153 countries and the Beatles have the most songs nominated in the online poll.
An email has been flitting through Irish cyberspace with the following call to action: “The BBC are at it again – this time however they’re asking everyone to vote for their favourite song of all time. So obviously we’re going to try to mess it up for them.”
The email is reportedly causing a bit of a stir and no doubt some red faces at the BBC.
