A major technology project for the courts service, valued at over €1.25m, is understood to have been completed by Cap Gemini Ernst & Young in association with Hewlett-Packard (HP).

The project involved the provision of directory, desktop and email services across more than 70 courts service offices in 43 locations. The project also involved the reconfiguration of the Judges’ Intranet.

The project is part of a multi-million euro eCourts initiative aimed at modernising the courts service and enabling citizens to conduct business with State bodies electronically.

The project involved the installation of Lotus Notes email and Microsoft XP to 1,000 courts service staff. The Judges’ Intranet will allow judges to gain access to case law and precedent across all jurisdictions.

“The completion of this project is an important milestone in a five-year strategic plan to implement the latest IT across the courts system,” explained PJ Fitzpatrick CEO of the courts service. “The overall objective is to greatly improve the administrative processing of cases in all court offices throughout the State and to equip staff in offices with the administrative and technological tools to provide an enhanced level of service to all court users.”
