Vodafone plans to increase Irish workforce to 2,000 employees

4 Oct 2016

On the back of increasing infrastructural expansion, Vodafone has announced a host of new technology jobs that will, when filled, bring the company’s headcount above 2,000.

Though a small number, the 35 new jobs announced by Vodafone will bring it towards a significant landmark.

As part of a broader 60-job expansion, the positions will be filled over the next 18 months, bringing Vodafone’s technology employee base to over 200, 10pc of its total Irish workforce.

The company said it was prompted to expand its workforce in response to the demand for skilled IT professionals, particularly within cloud-based services,“which are on the rise as more businesses move to a full range of cloud and customer communication technologies”.

As part of the IT infrastructure investment undertaken by the company throughout the country, senior and specialist roles in tech, digital, web and social media areas will be created.

These positions include IT architecture, digital product management, UX & design, demand management, agile techniques, test automation and innovation, and web and JavaScript development.

A data centre investment of €7m last year saw Vodafone seek to fill 20 positions in Dublin, part of the company’s cloud and hosting network of 18 data centres in Ireland, the UK, Germany and South Africa.

“Technology is rapidly advancing,” said Madalina Suceveanu, CTO of  Vodafone Ireland, “and technology-rich services and solutions have become an essential part of our customers’ everyday needs.

“In order to maintain our leadership position and deliver a world-class telecoms infrastructure and a superior product for our customers, we must continue to invest in technology, our digital platforms and in our people.

“This is a great time to join Vodafone, when the company is pioneering a gigabit society for Ireland and where the latest technologies are being leveraged to provide our customers with an excellent web and mobile experience.”
