It emerged last night that up to 200 research jobs are to go at Limerick-based Thomson Scientific after a 30-day consultation.
The jobs blow for Limerick fell just as news that up to 600 jobs are hanging in the balance at the Procter & Gamble plant at Nenagh in Tipperary.
Thomson Scientific develops software for the legal, financial, science and healthcare sectors. The company said last month that it was transferring some of its operations to India as part of a cost-saving process.
Redundancies at the software firm are expected to be completed within the next 18 months. The operation was one of the longest tenants at the Plassey technology park adjacent to the University of Limerick.
Thomson Scientific, a division of the Thomson Corporation, employs over 45,000 people in 130 countries and is listed on the New York and Toronto stock exchanges.
The company’s technologies are targeted at assisting professionals across the broad canvas of R&D from analysis to product development and distribution.
In October Thomson announced plans to sell its Thomson learning business.
