Linda Liukas, Finland's Digital Champion and co-founder of Rails Girls

Ahead of the Digital Agenda Assembly this week, the Institute of International and European Affairs hosted a public conversation with Finland’s Digital Champion and co-founder of Rails Girls Linda Liukas.

Liukas and Silicon Republic’s Ann O’Dea discussed the importance of innovation, entrepreneurship and digital education for Europe’s digital economy and focused on the challenges and opportunities for European start-ups, as well as the long-term importance of improving digital skills – particularly when it comes to women and girls.

Liukas was appointed as Finland’s National Digital Champion in 2012. She is one of the co-founders of the Rails Girls, a non-profit global community movement that aims to get more women excited about building the internet, and now runs coding workshops in more than 90 countries worldwide. Liukas is currently community manager with Codecademy, the online learning platform based in New York.
