250 technology R&D jobs for Cork as local firm expands

17 Apr 2009

Indigenous business process outsourcing (BPO) player Abtran is to create 250 jobs in Cork at a new Innovation Centre.

The Bishopstown-based company, which already employs 600 people, intends to have all 250 graduate-level positions filled by the end of next year and recruitment has already commenced.

Abtran provides BPO services to leading private and public-sector organisations and its clients include BSkyB, ESB and Hibernian Aviva Health.

The company announced the new jobs at a briefing attended in Cork by An Taoiseach, Brian Cowen.

Abtran is the largest indigenous BPO provider in Ireland and processes over 10 million transactions and some €100m in revenue on behalf of its clients.

The company’s reach can be assessed in view of the fact that every household in Ireland is in contact with Abtran at least once every year.
