Daily deals aggregator MyDealPage.ie reports that €27m has been spent in the Irish daily deals market in the first six months of 2013, as consumers learn to look online for money-saving opportunities.

MyDealPage.ie estimates that, on average, consumers are spending €150,000 per day on daily deal sites and co-founder Charles Maltha predicts the total figure will reach €58m by year-end.

“I’m not surprised by the continued growth of the deal market and I believe consumers are becoming more aware of the value that can be found online,” he said. “Recent figures from the Government’s National Digital Strategy report show that consumers spend a total of €3.7bn online every year, with six out of 10 consumers shopping online. Over 80pc of online consumers use the internet to find the best deals or information before purchasing. Consumers can really get more for their money if they shop around online.”

MyDealPage.ie claims Irish businesses have offered 10,000 deals online so far this year, with an average of 51pc off usual retail prices. Accommodation has the biggest share of spend at 23pc, followed by health and beauty at 21pc. In terms of the number of deals sold, retail and services top the list at 27pc, followed by health and beauty at 24pc.

January saw the highest spend on online daily deals, while MyDealPage.ie reports that consumers spend the most on Mondays.
