Some 60pc of Irish small and medium-sized businesses plan to invest in voice over internet protocol (VoIP) technology over the next six months.

According to communications technology firm Cisco’s own research there is pent-up demand for the new technology.

“We are currently experiencing solid demand from SMEs, particularly around our Unified Communications portfolio, which helps companies to communicate more effectively and lower costs,” said Cisco country manager Michael Galvin.

The company is about to kick off a nationwide tour with a 25-foot vehicle, the Cisco ‘Network on Wheels’ van, which will visit Dublin, Galway, Cork and Belfast, to showcase the company’s unified communications technologies.

“Cisco’s success in Ireland has been built on delivering what our customers and partners require to stay at the forefront of business. For the past three years we have been working to transform our SMB strategy in Ireland to match the needs of customers,” said Michael Galvin, country manager, Cisco Ireland.
