Amazon.com senior VP and CFO to retire in June

3 Sep 2014

Amazon.com’s senior vice-president and chief financial officer Thomas J Szkutak is calling it a day with the e-commerce giant, having announced he will retire in June.

Until then, Szkutak will work to transition his replacement, Brian T Olsavsky, into the role, which includes overseeing the controller, treasury, investor relations, tax, internal audit and facilities functions, as well as financial management of the company’s business units.

Olsavsky is currently vice-president of finance for Amazon’s global consumer business.

Szkutak has been Amazon’s CFO since joining the company in October 2002, and Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said his impact has been evident in every part of the business.

“Under Tom’s stewardship, customers have benefitted from category expansion and geographical expansion, along with amazing new businesses, such as Amazon Web Services and Kindle,” said Bezos.

“The day Tom joined the company was a very lucky one for Amazon’s shareowners and customers and for all of us who’ve had the pleasure and fun of getting to work with him.”

Upon his retirement, Szkutak said he will spend more time with his family and on other outside interests.
