Belfast-based mobile software company Aepona, was today listed as one of Europe’s top technology companies by Red Herring, the global technology media company.

The Red Herring 100 awards are presented annually to leading private companies based in the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region.

Aepona CEO Isaac Olasoko said: “The Red Herring 100 award is an important accolade and recognises the potential Aepona has in becoming a high-value company within the telecommunications sector.”

He added: “This potential is based on sales successes with major operators such as Telus, Sprint and France Telecom/Orange, and also on our technology and thought leadership in high-growth market segments such as Telecom Web Services.”

Aepona landed a deal with Canadian telecoms company Telus in February of this year soon after a venture capital investment of US$10m by existing investors which culminated in a total investment of US$45m.

This recent success aided Aepona as it was evaluated by Red Herring’s editorial staff from a list of over 700 private companies.

“This year’s impressive list of winners demonstrates Europe’s emergence as a major player in the global technology sector,” said Red Herring editor-in-chief Joel Dreyfuss.

The Red Herring 100 Awards is an important accolade for emerging technology companies with Google, eBay and Skype among the previous winners.

Aepona employs 117 in Belfast and has reported revenues of US$11m. Olasoko commented: “I am very proud of what the team has achieved to date and look forward to leading the company towards even greater success in the future.”
