BoyleSports bets on Oracle

31 Jan 2005

BoyleSports has selected Oracle to provide database software for a new integrated electronic betting platform.

The betting chain will use Oracle’s Database Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition One packages that will enable BoyleSports customers to use one account across the bookmaker’s retail, telephone and internet betting channels at any time.

The value of the deal was not disclosed. The system is to be rolled out across its 80 branches and non-retail divisions in Ireland by the end of March 2005.

The new system will allow BoyleSports to offer new betting options such as easy-to-use ‘mark sense’ betting slips, similar to those used by the National Lottery. In addition, bets will now be verified using scanning technology rather than traditional cross-checking means.
Owner and managing director of BoyleSports, John Boyle, commented: “The Oracle products will allow us to centrally manage all relevant information and give us the opportunity to react quickly to customer trends or other vital data. This is another first for BoyleSports and Irish betting.”

Nicky Sheridan, vice-president and managing director of Oracle Ireland, described the deal as “a further expansion for Oracle in the Irish market”.
