The parent company of Dixons, Currys and PC World in Ireland reported this morning that sales in the eight week peak trading season up until 6 January grew by 34pc on last year.
Like for like sales at DSG Ireland, excluding the opening of new stores, were up 8pc over last year.
In the 28 weeks leading up to 11 November, DSG Ireland says total sales grew by 28pc to €82.5m, up 14pc on last year.
DSG Ireland managing director Declan Ronayne says that all the company’s chains in Ireland performed strongly.
Three new stores were opened in Naas, Sligo and Carrickmines in the first half of 2006, with four more opening in Cork and Navan in time for peak Christmas trading, creating 100 new jobs. Across Ireland DSG employs over 700 people.
In November the company unveiled its new online store for businesses called PC World Business.
“Being part of the bigger DSGi group gives us scale, particularly with centralised international buying and distribution, which enables us to offer our customers the best prices, ranges and choice of products in the market,” Ronayne explained.
“We have enjoyed particularly strong sales in flat panel TVs and laptops and, with the continued expansion of the Irish housing market, white goods sales are also performing well,” Ronayne added.
