Cork SME beats global competitors to win US$1-million contract

12 Feb 2010

Cork company ProSys Sampling Systems has today won out over four international companies to ink a US$1-million contract with a global pharmaceutical giant.

The contract will see ProSys, which is based in Midleton, Co Cork, design and manufacture high-containment isolators for the pharmaceutical company’s US headquarters.

The announcement was made by Minister for Trade and Commerce, Billy Kelleher TD, during the Boston leg of Enterprise Ireland’s trade visit to the US east coast, which is taking place this week.

High-containment isolators help in the handling of highly active and/or toxic chemicals to ensure non-contamination during the R&D lifecycle of a product. They also allow procedures to be carried out with minimal operator exposure.

Significant contract
“I’d like to warmly congratulate Prosys Sampling Systems on this significant contract in the United States. Prosys is a leading example of the innovative, high-technology design and manufacturing companies that are developing in Ireland. This is a significant achievement by the company that will enable them to further internationalise and will support their ongoing business in Midleton,” said Kelleher.

“We are delighted to have secured this contract with one of the world’s top pharmaceuticals companies. We competed against four top international companies for this contract and ProSys’ triumph shows that we are a leader in the design and manufacture of high-containment isolators,” added Michael McLoughlin, managing director at ProSys Sampling Systems.

Major step
“Prosys Sampling Systems is a dynamic company that has pursued its internationalisation strategy with great determination and energy. This new contract is a major step in advancing the company’s foothold in the US market and we will continue to strongly support their efforts to secure new business in the United States,” said Tom Cusack of Enterprise Ireland.

ProSys currently employs 20 people at its manufacturing facility in Midleton. The company specialises in the design and manufacture of sampling and containment equipment to meet the changing requirements of the pharmaceutical industry.

Since the company formed in 1997, it has partnered with a number of tier-one international pharmaceutical companies including Pfizer, Wyeth, Roche and Merck.
