C&W delivers VoIP on time for DHL

Cable & Wireless’ Irish operations have delivered a voice over IP network for DHL Ireland which, it claims, will lead to free calls between operations as well as major reductions in mobile call costs.

As part of a three-year contract with DHL, Cable & Wireless says the project will improve customer service, increase employee productivity and reduce maintenance costs.

The contract involved Cable & Wireless designing and implementing an IP infrastructure for 1,200 DHL employees in 27 locations across Ireland

“Cable & Wireless, in conjunction with DHL staff, set-up the entire communications systems for 1,200 users, across 27 locations in 14 months, ahead of time and with no disruptions to the business,” said Derek Monahan, IS Director, DHL Ireland.

“Its managed IP solution has also eliminated twelve PABX systems and their associated maintenance contracts.

“This alone paid for the implementation,” Monahan added.

In addition to wireless voice over IP (VoIP), Cable & Wireless has deployed a single billing system that will reduce all external national, mobile and international call tariffs.

The new system will use an Avaya IP contact centre and a Cisco IP telephony platform for DHL’s head office and call centre in Swords as well as installing 20 local area networks at DHL service centres throughout Ireland.
