Aepona to create jobs with multimillion-dollar deal
Belfast-based Aepona has secured a multimillion-dollar contract with a major American corporation to provide mobile computing via the internet.
In 2010, revenues at Aepona increased from US$21m to $35m. As part of its development, the company is planning to expand its global workforce by 15pc in the next six months. The expansion will include a number of new jobs at the company’s Belfast operations.
Aepona’s new three-year US contract with Virginia-based Neustar Inc is significant because it signals the company’s entrance into mobile cloud computing. This newly emerging market aims to address the rapidly growing opportunity for new mobile and web-based applications that revolutionise the way smartphone users work, shop, socialise and consume content.
CeltixConnect gets go-ahead to lay fibre under Irish Sea
CeltixConnect has been given the go-ahead to deploy a sub-sea fibre cable linking Ireland and the UK. It has been awarded sub-sea consent by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs after detailed consultation.
The CeltixConnect cable lands in the heart of Dublin’s business district at East Point Business Park and the Irish Financial Services Centre, connecting from there to the T50, Dublin’s major metropolitan network that links all key business districts, data centres and business parks.
In the UK, the privately owned carrier neutral sub-sea cable lands at Porth Dafarch, North Wales, where it will have the ability to connect to the Welsh Assembly-funded Fibre Speed, an open-access fibre-optic network that connects Holyhead, Wales, to Manchester, England, and also with a number of other major fibre-optic networks that connect into London and mainland Europe.
Aurion Learning to deliver e-learning to Irish universities
Award-winning online learning company Aurion Learning has been awarded a new contract to develop an equality and diversity e-learning programme for the Irish Universities Association (IUA) Equality Network, a sub group of the Irish Universities Association.
Aurion Learning will be working in collaboration with the IUA Equality Network, to design and build an online learning programme suitable for all staff.
The IUA Equality Network, with membership from Ireland’s seven universities, was established to work collaboratively to share best practices, develop institutional competence, develop intervarsity projects and co-operation, promote an inclusive university environment and prevent discrimination on all equality grounds contemplated in legalisation.
