Limerick tech firm AMCS buys UK software company
Limerick-headquartered environment and recycling management software company AMCS has acquired UK software company The Solution Works for an undisclosed sum.
AMCS was set up in 2003 and achieved a turnover of €7m last year. More than 50pc of the company’s revenues come from exports.
“The acquisition, which is a first for AMCS, is a major milestone in the international expansion and development of the company,” Jimmy Martin, CEO of AMCS, explained.
“The Solution Works has an impressive track record and experience in software development and deployment. The core technology of TSW – the Elemos/Wims software, is the leading solution in our vertical market.
“The acquisition will significantly enhance our capabilities to develop innovative and integrated end-to-end software and hardware systems that maximise efficiencies and profitability for our clients and help them meet their recycling targets,” Martin said.
Netflix signs content deal with Miramax for UK and Ireland
Netflix has signed another content agreement – this time with Miramax – to bring more movies to its service when it launches in the UK and Ireland in early 2012.
The deal will see Miramax films such as Gangs of New York, The Hours, The Aviator, Chocolat, Scream and The Talented Mr Ripley arrive on Netflix when it launches in the UK and Ireland.
The service will let users stream films from their PCs, tablets, games consoles, internet-enabled TVs and mobile phones.
Cork firm launches into Japanese consumer electronics market
Cork technology company RedMere has won a deal with consumer electronics player Miyoshi to launch ultra slim high-speed HDMI cables with Ethernet into the Japanese market.
The mini-HDMI cables will be suitable for use in some of the top-of-the-range digital cameras, DSLRs, camcorders, smartphones and tablet computers.
This is the first time that an active, ultra-portable mini-HDMI cable has been launched in the Japanese market.
