Eircom in multimillion network deal

Eircom and France Telecom subsidiary Equant have signed a multimillion-euro deal intended to give Eircom’s multinational customers in Ireland access to better global links and enhanced network voice and data services.

The agreement is for an initial three years and said to be worth in the €3m-€5m range.

In a statement, Eircom said its customers would benefit from the combination of its own national internet protocol (IP) network and Equant’s global network services that reach across 164 countries.

“Access to global network services was key to our decision to partner with Equant,” said Cathal Magee, managing director of Eircom Retail.

“This is part of an ongoing relationship with Eircom, which involves us providing businesses with virtual private networks, MPLS-based networks and both IP and switched voice solutions,” said Andrew McFadzen, general manager of UK and Ireland at Equant. “There will also be a consultative element to the relationship which means Irish-headquartered companies will benefit from our wide range of services along with these products.”
