Eircom has sold its security alarm monitoring operation PhoneWatch to the Norwegian company Sector Alarm Corporation. While Eircom did not the reveal details of the sale, the telecoms provider indicated that PhoneWatch was no longer a core business unit.
Eircom said services to all PhoneWatch customers will continue as usual, with all customer contracts remaining in place.
PhoneWatch first entered the Irish security market in 1991. Its alarm systems are installed in more than 100,000 homes and businesses around the country.
Eircom CEO Herb Hribar said the sale of PhoneWatch would allow Eircom to focus on delivering next-generation technologies to its fixed and mobile customers.
“We are delighted that we have found a purchaser in the home security sector that is expanding into the Irish market and investing in Ireland,” he said.
Sector Alarm operates home security systems in both Norway and Sweden, covering more than 200,000 homes.
Commenting on the deal, Jørgen Dahl, CEO and founder of Sector Alarm, said the acquisition of PhoneWatch would give the company an immediate presence and platform for growth in the Irish market.
